Understanding GATE CE: Design & Analysis Focused

GATE CE doesn’t ask: “How do you manage construction at a site?”

Exam Structure

Format:

• Duration: 3 hours
• Marks: 100

Scoring Strategy:

Focus on: Structural Analysis (12-15%) + Geotechnical (12-15%) + RCC Design (10-12%) + Water Resources (8-10%) = 42-52% of marks

General Aptitude (20 marks)

Same curriculum. Score 14-16/20 with 2-month focused preparation.

1. Structural Analysis (12-15% = 10-12 marks) - HIGHEST PRIORITY

• Solution: T₅₀ = 0.197 ≈ Cv × t / H²
• t = T₅₀ × H² / Cv = 0.197 × 4 / 4 = 0.197 years
